Olive Ridley On Migration in Bali

The Olive ridley turtle is species that lives in tropical and subtropical water which are shallow water. Olive ridley  turtle are found laying eggs along the souther coast of Bali, including Kuta, canggi, Sanur and sorrounding as well as several beach in Klungkung district and several beach in Karangasem district 

 

The shape of olive ridley turtle is not much different  from other types of sea turtles that  have hard shells and forelimbs that are use for swimming, the shell of Olive ridley does not  have patterned motif like the hawkbill or green turtle, with gray scale color and has pseudo that change the color when turtle grows up.

The olive ridley has many name

In indonesia, Oilve ridley have several names each region or island, some of call gray turtle, bibis and flower turtle . 

Olive ridley turtle are found in warm waters that become migration area including the Pacific, India and Atlantic Ocean, many are found laying eggs on southern coast of the Indonesia archipelago including the souther coast of Bali.

 

like other sea turtle cycles, olive ridley turtle migrate and return to the beach to start the processing of laying eggs and storing them in the sand until they hatchl. Turtle will choose a comfortable place to stop assenting site, on the Bali island in general the nesting season start from April until September. from journal comparation and observation at Turtle Conservation and Education Center ( TCEC ) olive ridley select at nesting site or stopover in beach areas that have black sand grains that have presentation of 70 % iron mineral  content is magnetic because it contain the mineral magnetite. some of them also lay their eggs on white sand beaches.

 

on nesting season a female turtle can cre=create several nest holes and with a nesting interval of 2 to one weeks with an average number of eggs of approximately 120 eggs per nest 

 

along with change in coastal condition due development, the role  of conservation will be very important in protecting and socializing the existence of turtle that are sometime found in areas that are crowded with visitor to follow up with some relocation rescue of eggs to safer places
